Trent Beaman - Apprentice General Engineer

After leaving Central Southland College Trent was given the opportunity to become a Modern Apprentice, employed by Hecton Products, which means that while Hecton Products employ Trent he has access to the free Modern Apprenticeship service. Southern Group Training is the Modern Apprenticeship Coordinator for a range of trades, including engineering, in Southland.

Trent’s Modern Apprenticeship Coordinator develops an individual Training Plan for him which sets out the goals he is working towards and the timeframe for achieving them in.

The practical unit standards are taught in the workplace while the theory units are taught through weekly evening classes at the Southern Institute of Technology.

Trent also attends an annual three week block course. Regular attendance at evening class is required if Trent is to complete his qualification in a good timeframe.

Trent’s Coordinator meets with him regularly to ensure that good steady progress is being made towards Trent achieving his targets. The Coordinator also acts as a Mentor/Coach to both Trent and his employer at no cost to either.
