General Engineering Apprentice

Southern Group Training Trust is seeking to employ a Mechanical Engineering – General Engineering apprentice for positions based in Invercargill.

What the Role Involves:

Working in a general engineering workshop, your day-to-day work may involve:

  • Fitting and machining
  • Welding and steel fabrication
  • Plant maintenance
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Marine or rail engineering
Qualification Earned:

The successful applicant will earn the NZ Certificate in Mechanical Engineering – General Engineering (Level 4).

Successful Candidate Criteria:
  • Genuinely interested in learning the skills of the trade
  • Strong communication skills
  • Restricted or full NZ driver’s licence
  • Pass Drug & Alcohol screening
  • NZ Citizenship or legal work rights
  • NCEA Level 1 completed with preference given to applicants with NCEA level 2, a pre trade course or industry experience

Carpentry Apprentice

Southern Group Training Trust is seeking to employ a Carpentry apprentice in the Southland area. Carpenters plan, supervise, and work on the construction and alteration of residential and commercial buildings.

What the Role Involves:
  • Interpreting plans and technical instructions
  • Calculating material requirements and quantities
  • Constructing, altering, and repairing structural timber buildings
  • Ensuring strict NZ building standards are met on site
Qualification Earned:

The successful applicant will earn the NZ Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4).

Successful Candidate Criteria:
  • Genuinely interested in learning the skills of the trade
