Karl Auckram – Floor & Wall Tiler

Karl completed four years at Southland Boys High School before entering the workforce. He was employed in a number of jobs before applying for a floor and wall tiling apprenticeship with Southern Group Training. Karl was placed on secondment with The Tile Centre where he was taught the practical elements of the unit standards required for the completion of his Level 4 National Certificate.

Passing School Certificate English and having a good background in the subject has stood Karl in good stead as he completes the theory elements of his unit standards through self paced distance learning.

Karl has his own Modern Apprenticeship Coordinator who has developed an individual training plan for him which sets realistic goals and timeframes to achieve them in. The Coordinator, Karen Hogh, met with Karl on a regular basis and was available as a mentor to both Karl and his supervisor.

It is to his credit, and a reflection of the esteem with which he is held, that Karl was nominated by his host company for the Invercargill Sunrise Rotary Club Pride in Workmanship Award.
