Katie was always keen on cars. Her career could be anything at all so long as it had to do with cars. Her car won the Best Chicks Car 2004 award at the Harvey Norman Show and Shine.
When Katie left Southland Girls High School she enrolled in the Southern Institute of Technology Automotive Certificate in Automotive Engineering commonly known as a pre apprenticeship course.
As part of this course a student spends one day in work experience gaining exposure to real work practices in the automotive industry. For this Katie spent one day a week at Autoplex in Yarrow Street, and later with Rent-A-Space in their workshop in Clyde Street. Katie works at Appco Auto Parts selling parts to auto engineers in the motor trade in Southland. Appco is owned by Repco Australia but continues to run as its own separate entity. Most of the training for this is done in house with Appco and Repco providing training courses for their staff nation wide. Parts and Selling is a career with variety and opportunity. Katie’s knowledge of cars gained through her pre apprenticeship course has helped her as she identifies parts for makes and models both on computer and in parts catalogues. Katie can see herself becoming a travelling sales representative one day, and maybe even a sales manager.
